Released in 2018, the Marvel Comics superhero tale elevated the Black Panther character to the status of pop culture icon along with its title star Chadwick Boseman.
T’Challa returns home to the hidden African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king after the passing of his father. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the script along with Joe Robert Cole, the film also stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown among others.
It was the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, earning six more Oscar nominations and winning three.
The fantasy action-adventure film grossed more than $700 million in the US for Walt Disney Pictures and remains an inspirational story for people of all colors around the world.
