The creators of the popular queer-centric digital series ‘Girls Like Magic’ are taking their equality fight to the fans, using (ironically) the very platform that is stifling their work — YouTube.

On Monday, May 13th, Julia Eringer and Shantell Yasmine Abeydeera are hosting a 12-hour LIVE-A-THON to raise awareness about the strategic of demonetization of LGBTQI content and the adverse effects future creators will face. The event will air from 3pm — 3am Pacific Time on One More Lesbian’s YouTube channel, and brings together artists from the community delivering 12 hours of activism and entertainment with music, comedy, art and interviews.

Eringer and Abeydeera didn’t ask for this equality fight, but after gaining over 25 million views for Season One and earning less than $500, they discovered their show was demonetized. The decision by Youtube in 2018 to “demonetize” content that it deems “inflammatory” in some way, even though the content might not necessarily violate YouTube’s policies, has hugely affected many content creators including those creating LGBTQI content. Youtube’s general counsel wrote in a explanation to the Financial Times that it wanted to avoid, “promoting extremely offensive viewpoints.”

Understandably, Eringer and Abeydeera are left questioning why their queer-centric content is being singled out, while similar heterosexual content continues to thrive. Leaving them no choice but to crowdfund for their second season.

Live-A-Thon Guests will include:
Julia Eringer (Actress / writer, Girls Like Magic / Good Kisser), Yasmine Abeydeera (Actress / Musician, Girls Like Magic / Madame Dux), Rachel Paulson (Actress / Host, Good Kisser / Drink Responsibly), Amber Whittington (Influencer / Actress, Lipstick the Series / Amber’s Closet), Briget McManus (Actor /Comedian, Tello Films), Karman Kregloe (Actor / Comedian), Kristen Smith (Actor / Comedian), Samantha Thomas (Artist), Briana Venskus (Actress, The Walking Dead), Yel Loving (Rapper), Beth Ryne (Director, Documentary Feeling Seen), Jennifer Rose (Music / head of Med Sesh), Mandahla Rose (Actress, All About E, Forever Not Maybe, Crazy Bitches), BIFL Cast and Crew (Actors, producers, director), D’Lo (Actor / Comedian, Transparent / Girls Like Magic), Jen Klein (Comedian), Jane Clark (Director, Crazy Bitches / Meth Head), Jen Murzda (Singer), Vanessa Bryan (Singer), Temme Scott (Singer), Emma and Winnie Stack (Actors), Wasi (Band), Crazy Bitches Cast, Jordan Paige (Hair artist), Divinity Ray (Hair artist).

About ‘Girls Like Magic’
The first season follows naive Brit, Maggie (Eringer), who befriends her new neighbor, lesbian musician, Jamie (Abeydeera) who she hears loudly making up, and then breaking up, with her ex-girlfriend Casey (Brea Grant, Heroes/ Dexter) after following her chauvinistic boyfriend (Dominic Adams, Devious Maids/SIX) to Los Angeles. The two hit it off and Jamie dubs Maggie “Magic” for saving her night. Through the season, Magic helps Jamie navigate her newly single life and Jamie introduces Magic to the wonderful world of being gay: the cliques, the dildos, and the drama. As they become closer they wonder, are they best friends or are they more? With fans routing for the girls to become a couple and Magic and Jamie finally admitting their love for one another in the closing moments of the season, everyone is excited to find out what will happen next! At double the length, the second season promises twice the comedy, twice the drama and of course twice the love!

The Live-A-Thon will take place Monday May 13th from 3pm-3am on One More Lesbian’s YouTube Channel.

The crowd-funding campaign for ‘Girls Like Magic’ Season Two launched on Seed and Spark on April 23rd 2019. www.seedandspark.com/fund.girls-like-magic
