What is the premise of Banging Lanie?

The story is described as: centering around Lanie Burroughs (Powell), a smart High School senior who suddenly discovers that she isn’t meeting all the requirements laid out in the hierarchy of needs. Believing her scientific knowledge can be applied to dating, she makes a plan to change that — by sleeping with her first crush. What she encounters is that friendship and connection are about much more than physical touch.

What else do we know about Banging Lanie?

Why did Allison Powell and Lauren C. Brooks want to make this movie?

Allison Powell: “The most common response I kept hearing along the way is ‘this was just like me in High School.’ And, this came from both men and women. That’s when I knew we all struggle with feeling out of touch with the ‘cool crowd’ or our bodies, or have misinformation on what everyone else gets up to behind closed doors. This is the film I wish I had seen when I was a teenager. I just wanted to know I wasn’t weird or broken and that everything would be ok. Turns out — we all need to hear it and I can’t wait to share this story with an audience.”

Lauren C. Brooks: “Stories of young sexual awakening are so often told from the male perspective with women being treated as objects of sexual desire. Not wanting to simply reverse that story line it was important that we include all genders in this story making process. Inclusion and diversity were a top priority in staffing our film, and we believe this story to be universal no matter your gender, race, or sexual orientation.”

This North Carolina native now living in Los Angeles is also known for her LA Film Festival appearance in the indie film, The Axe Murders of Villisca.

Lauren C. Brooks has a degree in Theater from Umass Amherst and an MFA in Producing from Chapman University. Originally from Bost, she currently works in Los Angeles as a production manager at AwesomenessTV, an entertainment brand owned by ViacomCBS.
