Writer-Director Allison Volk serves up a meal of wifely conflict in her new dark comedy short film All Choked Up. The film stars Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Bodie Newcomb and hit the festival circuit with its debut at the Aspen Shortsfest on April 11, 2023.

The film is described as: delivering a tough decision that every underappreciated wife will identify with. It’s not just an ordinary lunchtime for Marsha, this is the moment she gets to decide whether to save her husband from choking — or not.

Allison Volk wrote the Marsha role specifically for Siobhan Fallon Hogan, knowing that her sense of humor could deliver the delicate situation. Allison also knew Bodie Newcomb would bring the overbearing husband to life, having previously cast him in her original comedy podcast, Curtis and Otis.

After living and working in Los Angeles for several years, the award-winning writer-producer-actress moved back to her home state of Colorado. “This project brought together some extraordinary talent in Colorado’s burgeoning narrative film community. I’m so grateful that I got to work with this team,” Allison explains.

Allison wrote and starred in the celebrated dark comedy feature film, Deany Bean is Dead, which premiered at the Dances with Films and is currently available on Amazon Prime. She also wrote and directed the short, What Katy Did, which screened at the 2022 Comic Con in San Diego, and won ‘Best Screenplay’ at the 2018 Utah Film Awards for her dark action-comedy feature script, Tiger Woman. Allison started as an actress, appearing as ‘Jane’ in Disney’s western-action film, The Lone Ranger.
Allison’s roots run deep in the theater, proving a skilled writer with several plays produced. Her comedy, Rite of Seymour, premiered in Los Angeles at the Son of Semele ensemble as a Drive Theatre production. She was then commissioned by the Shakespeare Orange County to write the acclaimed, Sonnets, Songs & Sorry, Will’s Been Dead 400 Years! In addition, she co-founded and served as co-artistic director for The City Shakespeare Company in Santa Monica.
