Latino actor Eduardo Navas, who returned in season four as the hospital’s maintenance worker Rafael on NBC’s hit drama series, New Amsterdam.

Rafael first appeared during the third season episode, TITLE, shedding light on the inherent prejudice within the hospital and setting Max (Ryan Eggold) on a mission to stop it. In the latest fourth season episode “Rise,” Rafael is back to highlight how budget cuts are negatively impacting the health and welfare of the Latino community.

A Venezuelan native, Eduardo began acting at an early age. He performed at the Church of San Pancracio Martir, co-founded the Andres Bello theatre group, was a member of the Harlequin Theatre, and participated in the famous Theatre Festival in Cesar, Colombia. He graduated from the Music Institute Valencia (TMV) and studied acting at the respected Taller del Método (Method Acting Studio, Venezuela). He went on to win Best Actor at the First Annual Magoson Festival of Theatre for his starring role in Rodolfo Santana’s Encuentro en el Parque Peligroso (Encounter at the Dangerous Park).

What has Eduardo Navas been working on since arriving in the U.S.?

Eduardo gained attention in the theater starring in productions of Yerma, Blood Wedding, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, and The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa, all mounted by the Spanish Repertory Theatre “Repertorio Español”.

In addition to studying acting at HB Studios in New York, Eduardo learned filmmaking and special effects at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and earned a degree in Media Studies at LaGuardia Community College. He put these skills to work and in 2006 received an ACE for Best Director-Comedy Awards from the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics of New York. More recently in 2018, his makeup abilities were on full display in the indie film Don’t Look, which won the Toronto International Spring of Horror’s Festival and the Fantasy Film Festival Best Special Effects.
