Filmmaker and actress Jessica Anderson grew much attention for the recent premiere of her new satirical-meets-suspenseful horror short film ‘Money Back Guarantee’ as part of the 2024 LA Shorts International Film Festival.
What is the premise of ‘Money Back Guarantee’?
The film is described as following: Christine Dolores (Anderson) as she starts another peaceful day in sunny California until a simple phone call causes an unexpected turn. When an increasingly desperate salesman hounds and threatens not only her tranquility but also her sanity, Christine wonders if his pleas for help are real or just a ploy — and more importantly will she ever find her way back to her perfectly sunny day?
Why did Jessica Anderson want to make this film?
“Money Back Guarantee is one part satire, one part horror, and a lot of fun,” explains Jessica. “It explores how we see ourselves and how we can think we’re one way, like being a good person, but then when it actually comes down to it, we may not be.”
What is Jessica Anderson’s background?
The filmmaker also recently debuted her first feature film ‘Momma’s Boy,’ now streaming on Amazon, Tubi, and Google Play. Jessica also stars in this latent coming-of-age story, which explores a man’s unhealthy emotional dependency as he tries to navigate romantic relationships and adulthood.
A Florida native, Jessica studied at The University of South Florida, where he earned an English Literature degree. During this time, she also focused on filmmaking and acting and eventually made her way to Los Angeles to pursue acting professionally. During the pandemic, she wrote her first short film, the campy comedy noir ‘Drunk Detective’ and later shot it.
What’s Jessica Anderson working on next?
Jessica shares, “Money Back Guarantee was my first horror film, and it made me want to make more, which is what I plan on doing.” She has written two feature length horror screenplays with plans to get them into production very soon.
