Canadian actress Jessica Danov, who portrays a heartfelt Mom in Alicia K. Harris’s new dramatic short film, PICK.
What is the premise of PICK?
Described as: centering around Alliyah (Hazel Downey), a young girl who wears her afro to school on picture day and must deal with the unexpected consequences.
Jessica plays Alliyah’s single, white Mom, struggling to help her mixed-race daughter deal with her kinky hair, an issue she has never experienced herself.

The film received a nomination for a 2020 Canadian Screen Award (CSA): Best Live Action Short, which has been postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Prior to this, it gained momentum on the festival circuit screening at TIFF Next Wave Film Festival (Toronto), Afro Prairie Film Festival (Winnipeg), Athena Film Festival (New York), Miami Film Festival (Miami), Kingston Canadian Film Festival (Kingston), Urbanworld (New York), Vancouver International Film Festival (Vancouver), Bushwick Film Festival (New York), Festival du nouveau cinema (Montreal), Reel Sisters of the Diaspora (New York), and Regent Park Film Festival (Toronto).
