Actress Kate Bergeron, who lands in serious danger recurring on the new AMC/AMC+ thriller series, Dark Winds. The project is based on Tony Hillerman’s iconic books and comes from legendary executive producers by George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford.
What is the premise of Dark Winds?
The series is described as: following Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon), two Navajo Nation police officers in the 1970s Southwest that are forced to challenge their own spiritual beliefs when they search for clues in a double murder case.
Kate Bergeron enters the storyline as Karen Smith, a mother who is on a road trip with her husband and two daughters. They innocently find themselves being terrorized and fighting for their lives after buying a painting with a hidden secret.

Television fans will remember Kate as the English teacher ‘who don’t speak English so good’ recurring on ABC’s, Speechless. Kate is also a multi-hyphenate, creating and starring in her own projects. She gained attention for two seasons of Katie-Do, a one-woman variety show for the digital age, and successfully hit the festivals with her comedy-horror short, Meditations By Shadow. She also teamed up with the sketch group onewordnocaps for the short, Easter Fools, which was featured on WhoHaHa.
How did Kate Bergeron get into acting?
Kate hails from the small town of Portland, Michigan, which is known for having a thriving civic theater program. She got her start early, singing as a kid with her family’s band “The Bergeron Trio.” All grown up, she headed to Chicago, where she earned a degree in Musical Theater from the Acting Conservatory at The Chicago College of Performing Arts. And, like many actors in Chicago, Kate honed her talents at The Second City.
