ShowBizzBuzz: M. David Christman Drops New Web Series “Character Flaws”
Who is Buzzworthy?
Actor and Creator M. David Christman seeks what every Hollywood dreamer needs — a demo reel — in the new original web series, Character Flaws, streaming now on YouTube.
What is the premise of Character Flaws?
The 8-episode series is described as: centering around Matt (Christman), a late-blooming wannabe actor whose career is going so poorly that he doesn’t even have a demo reel. He sets out to create his own with the help of some reluctant friends, an eccentric director, a no-bullshit producer, and a street hustler who sells bootleg cigarettes out of a neighborhood lemonade stand. Very little goes according to plan as actors cancel, extras die, and snags continue to pile up. Matt soon discovers that with a little improvisation and a lot of resourcefulness, he just might pull it off. But probably not.
What does M. David Christman think about the series?
“It’s full of dry humor and clever comedy with a meanspirited streak — of which Matt is the butt of the joke. It’s kind of an underdog story, except nobody is really rooting for him.”
Why did M. David Christman want to make this web series?
Christman wrote the series based on his own experience. Originally from Indianapolis, he moved to Hollywood with high hopes and very little demo footage. So, he teamed up with fellow classmates Colin Koth, Chris Markle, Melanie Johnson, Ali Damji, Michelle Vogel and Joey Kruloc. Their mission was simple, create quality demo footage — it’s a win-win for everyone.
What does M. David Christman say about creating the project?
“A little went right, a lot went wrong, but in the end, I’m damn proud of our project. A true case of art imitating life. Or maybe it’s the other way around. Whatever, I didn’t go to college.”
