German actress Paulina Ophelia Sophie, who emerges on-screen and stage in two socially impactful stories. She recently proved memorable in the new play Shooting Zombies and starring in the heart-wrenching short film The Loss hitting the festival circuit in 2025.

What is the premise of Shooting Zombies?

Shooting Zombies tackles an intense subject in America — guns and children. The play follows when a parent-teacher-principal meeting is called to discuss a 10-year-old boy’s behavior after he pretends to shoot a classmate with his finger during recess. Paulina Ophelia Sophie portrays Pam, the teacher involved in the discussion. But everything may not be as it seems as the adults clash over politics, school policies, and a child’s imagination.

Written by Jim Morse and directed by Luis Reyes Cardenas, Shotting Zombies premiered in December as part of the Winter Short Play Festival at the Open Hydrant Theater Company at The Point CDC in the Bronx.

What is the premise of The Loss?

The Loss delivers the tragic end-of-life story of Mia, an 11-year-old Italian girl, suffering with brain cancer. The film is told through the eyes of the young girl’s cousin and best friend, Maggie (Paulina Ophelia Sophie).

The short film is based on a true story and was written by Mia’s cousin, Margheritha Marsiglio and co-writer Mahal. It premiered as part of a pediatric charity event hosted by the Mia Neri Foundation at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome, Italy.

What is Paulina Ophelia Sophie’s background?

Paulina hails from Munich, Germany and moved to New York City in 2023 to study at the famed Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. It wasn’t long before she made her theater debut in A Sketch of New York. She has also emerged on the indie film scene, appearing in Joe Bartone’s comedy My Movie Starring Paul Dano and Mai Benezra’s dramatic short Feel.

Currently, Paulina is writing her first full-length screenplay.
