Actress and Creator Tiffany Phillips premieres her original comedy web series, Ethnically Ambiguous, about navigating racial identity in Hollywood. Episodes will release one per week beginning May 12th for six weeks on her Nunoon Productions YouTube Channel.
What is the premise of Ethnically Ambiguous?
The series is described as: centering around Lena Jordan (Tiffany Phillips), an African-American actress who looks anything but. “WHAT are you?” is the question she gets asked every week of her life, often every day as a light skinned black woman. Her race is ambiguous and her life follows suit as she fumbles through the perceptions of who she ‘should be’ especially as a working actress. Constantly conforming to be what the entertainment industry wants; she fluctuates from one ethnicity to another with each role she plays.
Who else is involved in Ethnically Ambiguous?
Tiffany brought in several collaborators to create the project. To co-direct/co-produce, she turned to Emmy-nominated TV Producer and award-winning writer/director Rosa Costanza of Seven Directions Studios. To executive produce, Tiffany recruited award-winning film producer Kristi Anderson Ornstein of JKO Productions.
Why did Tiffany Phillips want to make this web series?
“I have two African American parents, but this has always confused people due to my light skin tone,” explains Tiffany Phillips who based the series on her own experience. “I want to educate people on the complexities of race and prejudice while doing so in an accessible way that brings laughter and learning to the audience.”
What is Tiffany Phillips’ background?
Among her many credits, Tiffany recurred as the BNC News Anchor Angela Raines on ABC’s, Scandal, and appeared as a Native American Skinwalker on MTV’s, Teen Wolf. Originally from California, at age 17 Tiffany left home to study at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. She went on to work in numerous Off Broadway shows and traveled the country as part of national touring stage productions. A proven singer, Tiffany toured the world as the lead background vocalist for Michael Bolton. More recently, she branched out creatively writing and starring in the acclaimed one woman show, I Never Met a Jerk I Didn’t Like.
